Two Day 20K

Just a week until 24 Hours of Sunlight.  I did this race with my now wife two years ago and we won the Duo Pro division.  It was not hotly contested and we were never really pushed.  All the pushing came from within and it was mostly fun getting that much vert.  This year, Dina, my wife, is doing the solo event and I'm doing the Duo again but this time with a male partner, Mike Werner.  He is a great skier and experienced rando racer but only has one day over 10,000 feet, ever!  Should be an interesting adventure for him.

My training this time around has been solid.  I am pretty light and have a good base now.  This past weekend I was able to do back-to-back 10K days on Snow King.  That's 6 1/2 laps up that thing each day.  I was able to complete each effort in about 4:50.  I have way more volume this year than ever so it should be interesting to see how I feel in the middle of the night when things can get ugly.

My speed is pretty good so I will be gunning for the fastest lap again just to make it interesting at the start.  I went 29 minutes and change last time and should be faster this year.  We will then settle in to 35 minute laps or so and try to hold on.  Our goal is to give the 4 and 5 man teams a run for their money.  It could be tough.  We may end up fading in the last couple of hours but top 3 overall would be nice.

Dina, on the other hand, has been logging some vert herself getting ready for the real sufferfest.  She did 10 laps on the King last week for 15,000 feet and then bagged the 10k double this weekend.  Her feet are a little ugly right now but should harden up in time for the event.  She has 5 family and friends coming in to support her.  It's going to be interesting.  She is constantly looking for events that test her mind as much as her body.  I think she will get what she is looking for next weekend!  Some the best athletes I know have been brought to their knees by this event.  Stay tuned.... Brian
